Lewis Fillmore Owens

Lewis Fillmore Owens, 72, of Fillmore, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 10, 1949, in Lexington, Ky., he was the son of Fredrick and Helen (Sharp) Owens.

He was a graduate of Milligan College and received his master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.

Lewis was a safety inspector and taught flight safety with the Federal Aviation Administration for more than 30 years. He served as rabbi of the Congregation of the One New Man, Bloomington, and received a lifetime award for his volunteer work with AAU for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Linda (Gress) Owens; children Lewis “Forrest” (wife Anna) Owens, Joy Owens (husband Kevin) Arauz, Matthew (wife Danielle) Owens and Heather Owens; and six grandchildren, Olivia, Charlie, Jori, Margot, Lewis and Eleanor.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. A time of fellowship will be held following services at the Putnamville Baptist Church, Putnamville.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Lewis to Gideons International.
