BAINBRIDGE -- Twenty-two veterans, including a band of brothers, were honored recently at the annual Quilts of Honor presentation by the One Stitch at a Time Quilt Club at Life Spring Church.

Three Putnam County Snider brothers turned the event into a family affair as Halbert Jr., Billy Dale and Bernard each received quilts in honor of their military service. All three are Army veterans.

There were 12 children in the Snider family, nine brothers and eight served in the military. Halbert suffered a recent heart attack, so his son Matthew received his quilt for him. Billy was there in person and Bernard could not attend after his wife suffered a serious fall, so his daughter received the quilt for him.

Bernard Snider could not be there and his quilt was accepted by his daughter. Quilts of Honor is an annual program presented by the One Stitch at a Time Quilt Club.

In all, 13 Army veterans, five Navy veterans, two Marines and two Air Force personnel were honored this year.

There was even a surprise quilt award during the program as Army veteran Doyne Priest was presented a quilt made by his daughter, Katrina Reedy. A veteran of 33-plus years in the Air Force herself, Reedy was surprised with a quilt of her own unfurled behind her as she presented her dad’s to him.

Meanwhile, one of the 22 quilts was presented off-site. Martha Collins is a resident at Asbury Towers and was a beautician in the Navy at Bethesda. She received her quilt in a private presentation.

Collins is a resident at Asbury and could not attend. She was presented her quilt by Sue Stattner who made the quilt.
