County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:21 a.m. Avery L.C. Dotson, 29, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for failure to appear.

Saturday

• At 12:03 a.m. Daniel S. Hayes, 65, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

Friday

• At 4:33 p.m. Audrey R. Cordes, 47, Cloverdale, was booked in for dealing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.

• At 3:27 a.m. Kelley M. Young, 53, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of marijuana.

• At 3 a.m. Donald R. Evans, 40, Roachdale, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

Thursday

• At 10:37 p.m. Christopher F. Rood, 32, Reelsville, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 1:27 p.m. Clarence W. Gilmore, 34, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 8:29 a.m. Nicholas S. Ritz, 33, Cloverdale, was booked in on a warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 2:17 a.m. Friday, Cory E. Smith, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer.

Taken into custody at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway, Smith was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a local warrant for violation of bond on an original charge of theft. He was also held on an Owen County warrant for legend drug deception, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, theft and public intoxication.

• At 8:55 p.m. Thursday, Austin A. Cox, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Cox, who was arrested on East Washington Street, was lodged in the jail for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 12:43 p.m. Thursday, Casey M. Willet, 44, Brighton, Mich., was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Willet was taken into custody at Speedway East on a Morgan County warrant for violation of pretrial release on original charges of legend drug deception, disorderly conduct and possession of paraphernalia.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Ashlee Cross, 24, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Damon Ludwig.

Stopped at Franklin and Arlington streets, Cross was cited for having a false or fictitious license plate.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent property-damage crash, which resulted in the arrest of a Martinsville woman.

• At 2 a.m. on Sunday, Kortney Derringer, 30, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 44-mile marker when she lost control of her 2015 Ford Fusion and slid into the grass median. The road surface was wet from rain at the time.

Derringer told Deputy Josh Clark that she believed she had a mechanical failure, which caused her to slide off the road. She said the car was just back from the shop, and she believed the tie rods were still bad.

However, Derringer also admitted to consuming four shots of alcohol. Additionally, Clark found marijuana and paraphernalia around the vehicle, with the things outside the vehicle looking like they had been placed there recently, not wet or dirty.

Tests were administered for drugs and alcohol, and Derringer was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 4:31 a.m. on initial charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

The car was towed. Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents since Thursday afternoon:

• At 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Tau Omega at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:08 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The detector head was cleaned and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 3:18 p.m.

• At 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:55 and determined the alarm was due to hair spray. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4 p.m.

• At 7:13 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Aldi for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:19 and found no cause for the alarm after monitoring the property. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:46 a.m.

• At 8:08 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:13 and determined the alarm was due to cologne. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:24 p.m.

• At 8:21 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1222 S. Bloomington St. for a report of a gas odor. Firefighters arrived at 8:25 and did not find a source for the odor after monitoring the property. GFD went back into service at 8:35 p.m.

• At 8:09 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:14 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:23 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to four medical assists in and after this timeframe.
