County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 2:27 p.m. Christine Taylor, 37, Plainfield, was booked in for conspiracy to traffic with an inmate.

Thursday

• At 6:46 p.m. Tamara R. Allen, 49, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 3:11 p.m. Rex A. Laird, 56, Centerpoint, was taken into custody for an out-of-county warrant.

• At noon Daniel W. Chasteen, 49, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 10:45 a.m. Robert E. Tobin III, 42, Ladoga, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 9 a.m. Friday, Kolby R. Williams, 24, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer.

Taken into custody on the Greencastle McDonald’s property, Williams was booked into the Putnam County Jail for battery, criminal mischief and residential entry involving an Indianapolis Road residence.

• At 12:47 a.m. Feb. 17, Fred Reed, 57, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Justin Herd.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Reed was taken into custody on an Owen County warrant for failure of a sex or violent offender to possess identification.

Five individuals were recently issued summonses by city officers:

• At 8:55 p.m. Feb. 19, Carlos Badea, 35, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Badea was issued a summons for a second offense of being an operator never licensed.

• At 1:30 a.m. Feb. 19, Anthony Pearson, 54, Greencastle, was issued a summons from Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped on the Castlebury Apartments lot, Pearson was cited for violation of a conditional license.

• At 10:51 a.m. Feb. 18, Patricia Perry, 34, Greencastle, was issued a summons from Officer Alec Pettit.

Stopped at Shadowlawn and North Arlington Street, Perry was cited for being an operator never licensed.

• At 4:44 a.m. Feb. 18, Rodny Miranda, 34, Greencastle, was issued a summons from Officer Helmer.

Stopped on Warren Drive, Miranda was cited for being an operator never licensed.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent crashes.

• At 5:41 a.m. on Sunday, Hallie R. Miller, 20, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 525 South approaching County Road 500 West in a 2008 Lexus A25 when she hit a deer.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:46 p.m. on Saturday, Mauro Martinez, 51, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 having just passed County Road 200 West in a 2017 Toyota Tundra when he hit a deer.

Cpl. Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three incidents since Friday evening:

• At 5:36 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a pedestrian hit at the intersection of Seminary and Bloomington streets. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:40 to a child lightly struck. A parent signed a statement of release for the child after they were checked out by EMS. GFD went back into service at 6:02 p.m.

GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi at DePauw University on two consecutive runs Sunday evening:

• At 5:26 p.m., GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:30 and determined the alarm was due to smoke from a candle that was blown out. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:39 p.m.

• At 5:47 p.m., GFD was dispatched again for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:55 and did not determine a definite cause for the alarm, though it could still have been in a trouble condition. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:02 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to eight medical assists during this timeframe.

Individuals listed in the blotter have been arrested on probable cause and have not been formally charged. Charging information may change after an initial arrest.
