The building having sat vacant for more than a decade, the demolition of Jones School begins on Greencastle’s northwest side. With crews from Denney Excavating beginning work earlier this week, almost nothing is left standing of the north hallway of the building as of Thursday morning. Having served Greencastle elementary-aged students from 1954-2001, the building became the Putnam County Courthouse Annex for another 10 years before it was closed for good. After plans to turn the building into senior housing fell through, the county commissioners made the decision to raze it earlier this year.
