Robert Steven Moore was born in Indianapolis on June 30, 1942. Steve (as he was known by most) went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2023 after a lengthy stay at Hutsonwood Nursing Facility in Brazil.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Myrtle Mills, Indianapolis; his granddaughter, Haley Nicole Dyer; his son-in-law, Douglas S. Kitchen; and his lifelong best friend and brother-in-law, James M. Gillian.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Brenda, Brazil,; three sons Patrick S Moore, Indianapolis, Kevin S. Dyer (Lisa Pietrzykowski), Indianapolis, and Scott C. Dyer (Jeanette Vanatti), Terre Haute,; two daughters, Sharon (Babie) Kitchen (Doug), Mooresville, and Heather N. Moore (Tony Gedert), Cloverdale. Steve had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; including a grandson Kayden P. Wheeler in Pueblo, Colo. He has many extended family members, and many nieces and nephews. Steve had two wonderful sisters, Patricia A Gilliam, Greenwood, and Judy A. Branham, Coatesville.

Steve was very fond of their pet Chihuahua, Choco Latte, always joking about his blue eyes (one blew left, one blew right). Choco visited Hutsonwood almost daily and was quite popular with both guests and staff.

Steve enjoyed working. He started working for Allied Pest Control in Indianapolis in 1959 at the age of 17. He and Brenda later purchased Allied and ran a successful business until they sold to Orkin in 1992.

During his life, Steve had many outside ventures, including real estate and log home sales. He and Brenda attended a training seminar in Onedia, Tenn., and he was a dealer for Barna Log Homes for several years. They later made several trips to Oakfield, Maine, when Steve became a dealer for Katahdin Log Homes, where most of the logs came from the “Katahdin Woods & Water,” formerly known as Katahdin National Forest in northern Maine.

Steve loved log home sales and while working with Katahdin, he was on the TV show “Extreme Home Makeover,” along with several hundred other Katahdin dealers, contractors, builders and volunteers. This very dedicated group built a very large log home for a disabled “lobster man” in one week. Steve said his one moment of fame came when he had a brief interview on national TV regarding this build.

In 2008, Steve opened a new pest control company, Charter Services. His business grew quickly; due in part, to his outgoing personality and sincere work ethic.

He loved music. He liked southern rock, country, bluegrass, gospel and many hymns sang in church. At one time Steve was in several bands, as front man and lead singer.

Steve was a past board member of Reelsville Water Authority, and at one time served as president of the Indiana Pest Control Association.

Robert Steven Moore will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends and associates, but he will be pain free, resting easy in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Services will be held at the Bousley Funeral Home in Coatesville on Wednesday at noon. Burial will follow at Walnut Chapel Cemetery.
