Michael Duane Surber

Michael Duane Surber, of Cicero, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Mike was born on Jan. 15, 1949, in Greencastle, where he was an acclaimed student-athlete in both basketball and track. After attending college at DePauw University, Mike went on to begin his successful banking career.

He was a true entrepreneur and visionary who took great pride in creating new ways to “help people, have fun and make money” ­- his business motto that also guided his personal life. Mike was a lover of animals and classic rock music and enjoyed spending time at his favorite beach in Siesta Key, Fla. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his daughters and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Mike’s larger-than-life personality touched many over his 74 years, and his absence will be undeniable for us all.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Harold.

He is survived by sister Beverly; daughters Kelly (Lyle), Cassie (Jay) and Mackenzie (Austin); as well as grandchildren Allison, Gavin and Charlotte.

A visitation with family will be held at Leppert Mortuary in Carmel on Saturday, April 8 from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society for Hamilton County.
