County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, Bradley L. Rumley, 39, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime.

Wednesday

• At 9:05 p.m. Misty A. Sims, 39, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 12:59 p.m. Geoffrey K. Kallner, 35, Springville, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 7:34 a.m. Leanna M. Boles, 31, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 1:15 a.m. Kaden C.L. Bell, 24, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 6:02 p.m. Daniel B. Ashby, 27, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for probation violation.

• At 4:09 p.m. Cody A. Tapp, 28, Springville, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 9:37 a.m. Aron J. Monnett, 39, Cloverdale, was booked in on a local warrant.

Monday

• At 11:45 p.m. Tammy K. McQueen, 63, Greenfield, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Robert Britton Jr., 52, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer on North Indiana Street.

Britton was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated-refusal and public intoxication. He tested at a .164 blood alcohol content on a portable breath test.

• At 10 p.m. on Saturday, Randall Huff, 55, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Helmer.

Arrested at Madison and Liberty streets, Huff tested at .344 blood alcohol content on a portable breath test. He as lodged at the Putnam County Jail on a public intoxication charge.

• At 7 a.m. on Saturday, Brian Montgomery, 46, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown at Big Walnut Sports Park.

Montgomery was housed at the jail for public intoxication.

Three recent summonses were also issued by city officers:

• At 11:39 p.m. on Sunday, Ernesto Hernandez Velazquez, 52, Spencer was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on Bloomington Street for traveling the wrong way in the one-way construction zone, Hernandez Velazquez was issued a summons into court for driving while never having received a licensed as well as a citation for driving the wrong way on a one-way road.

• At 9:07 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, Manuel Sanchez Rodriguez, 36, Chattanooga, Tenn., was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Sanchez Rodriguez was issued a summons into court for driving while never having received a licensed.

• At 8:07 p.m. on May 23, Dustin Tippin, 47, Greencastle, was also cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on North Indiana Street, Tippin was issued a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction as well as a citation for a false and fictitious plate.

Additionally, Officer Bill DeWitt issued three citations, all on Tuesday:

• At 3 p.m., Daniel Clodfelter, 38, Greencastle, was stopped on South Jackson Street and ticketed for driving with a suspended license.

• At 2:50 p.m. Caleb Rollins, 19, Roachdale, was stopped on South Jackson Street and ticketed for improper display of tags.

• At 8:48 a.m. Mike McMurtrey, 62, Crawfordsville, was stopped at Veterans Highway and Bloomington Street and ticketed for driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent crashes.

• At 10:32 p.m. on Tuesday, Ruth I. Stites, 71, Montezuma, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2013 Buick Encore when she hit a deer.

Deputy Josh Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. The car was towed.

• At 9:07 p.m. on Sunday, David Linson, 31, Anderson, was driving a 2014 Polaris side-by-side ATV on property on East County Road 300 South.

Deputy David Bennett said marks in the grass indicated that Linson was attempting to spin around when the vehicle caught traction and rolled onto its passenger side.

Both Linson and passenger Mary Salee, 33, Elizabethtown, Ky., were out of the vehicle upon the arrival of deputies, but there were transported for further evaluation.

Bennett estimated damage at less than $1,000.

• At 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Norvin J. Rivera Caliz, 23, Indianapolis, was eastbound on U.S. 36 approaching U.S. 231 in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Carol Inmon, 71, Rockville, was in front of Rivera Caliz in a 2012 Chrysler 200.

A passenger in Rivera Caliz’s vehicle told Deputy Todd Hopkins that the driver did not speak English, but that he was following his friends and the line of cars suddenly stopped, and he could not stop in time to avoid a collision.

Inmon said she was following the line of cars when they suddenly stopped. While she was able to avoid rear-ending the car in front of her, Rivera Caliz collided with her car.

A witness said the line of cars suddenly stopped and several vehicles had to swerve into a nearby field to avoid collision. Hopkins noted that there were nine vehicles in the line, and that the general statement was there was a sudden stop due to the stop light.

Rivera Caliz was cited for driving without financial responsibility.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, Cynthia B. Pistelli, 45, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 2017 Honda Pilot when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Commander Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

Greencastle firefighters responded to six incidents since Monday.

• At 6:49 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 418 Anderson St. Firefighters arrived to find no fire and that the alarm had been set off due to perfume. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 6:53 p.m.

• At 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a mutual aid structure fire at 5559 E. U.S. 40. They arrived at 11:16 p.m. to find Jefferson Township already on scene, reporting a small fire in an attached garage. GFD assisted with extinguishing the fire, then ventilating the structure. Crews were back in service at 11:48 a.m.

• At 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday, crews responded to a fire alarm at 413 S. Locust St. They arrived to find the alarm had been set off due to cooking. After reseting the system, firefighters returned to service at 6:37 p.m.

• At 6:33 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to an alarm at 413 Anderson St. Upon arrival and investigation, firefighters discovered the alarm was due to cooking. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 6:44 p.m.

• At 7:39 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters responded to a single-vehicle crash with a car into a tree at 518 N. Indiana St. They assisted with patient car and then cleared debris. They returned to service at 7:59 p.m.

• At 11:35 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to an alarm at 303 S. Locust St. Upon arrival, firefighters were met by cleaning personnel, who reported they had likely accidentally set off the alarm. After reseting the alarm, they returned to service at 11:48 a.m.

Firefighters also responded to eight medical assists.
