Tiger Cub tennis team picks up four wins in three days

With the postseason fast approaching, the Greencastle girls’ tennis team finally got some good weather and four wins in less than 48 hours.

Underscoring just how well the Tiger Cubs are performing down the stretch, each team win came by a 5-0 score.

The Tiger Cubs began the three-day stretch with a 5-0 win at Owen Valley on Thursday. Allie Landry topped Jane Prieto Gonfaus 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Maddie Landry defeated Alyeska Ranard 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Addie Fowler was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Kailey Sanders at No. 3 singles.

Not to be outdone, the No. 1 doubles team of Sophie Riggle and Bella Monnett won 6-0, 6-0 over Anna Sare and Sadie Neff, while Liberty Amis and Lauren Dibble were 6-3, 6-0 winners over Makala Gomes and Hannah Bixler at No. 2 doubles.

On Friday, the Tiger Cubs moved to 7-0 in Western Indiana Conference play with a 5-0 win over county rival South Putnam that saw them not surrender a single game across five matches.

Allie Landry defeated Sydnee Boswell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, with Maddie Landry winning 6-0, 6-0 over Lilly Stanley at No. 2 and Addie Fowler winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

On the doubles side, Riggle and Monnett won 6-0, 6-0 against Aubree Blaydes and Kaela Estes, while Amis and Dibble defeated Addie Brinkman and Jolie Foy 6-0, 6-0.

In addition, the Greencastle junior varsity won 5-2 over the Eagles to move to 11-0 on the season.

The Tiger Cubs followed that up by traveling to Frankfort on Saturday morning to win the Hot Dog Invitation with two more 5-0 wins over host Frankfort and Yorktown, moving to 18-3 on the season.

Individual match scores were not available on Saturday evening.

GHS concluded the regular season by hosting Indian Creek on Monday with an outright conference title on the line.

The Tiger Cubs will host sectional beginning on Wednesday. Pairings for the sectional, which also includes South Putnam, Martinsville and Mooresville, were announced Monday evening.
