Perfect Evening

Monday, July 8, 2024
Neither a post-holiday hangover nor downtown construction can keep a big crowd away from the July First Friday event in Greencastle, as locals keep the celebration of their independence going into an extended weekend.

Inside his Franklin Street studio, Rick Johnston, aka The Bearded Painter, gets a surprise from aspiring artist Sabrina Mally as she presents him with a painting of her own, titled “Scared Chick on its First Date.” All but saturating the printer paper on which she worked with acrylic paint, the nine-year-old Heritage Lake resident found that as the swirls dried, it revealed new colors. Sabrina said the swirls represented the chick’s swirling emotions.
Elsewhere, local musicians Steve St. Pierre and Henry Thomas along with other members of Mona & The Hitchhikers rock the South Indiana Street crowd from the Moore’s Bar Stage.
