Farmers Market open Saturdays

Friday, June 8, 2007

Main Street Greencastle announces the Greencastle Farmers Market. This event takes place downtown on the historic courthouse square every Saturday morning from 8 a.m.-noon.

The first market took place this past Saturday, June 2. Thanks to those who participated. It is still early in the growing season; we saw some beautiful plants this past Saturday and should see a bountiful amount of produce soon! The market will run every Saturday through Sept. 29. The market is open to the public.

The market is a great way to promote local farmers and residents who have fresh produce, plants and other products from home. This event is a place where friends and neighbors can buy healthy food, congregate, patronize local businesses, and enjoy our historic downtown. The market hopes to support area fresh produce, herbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, syrups, honey, meats, eggs, breads, grains, art, crafts and much more. There will be musical entertainment and some local downtown stores also serve breakfast items.

The cost of being a vendor is free and all residents are encouraged to bring their items that are homegrown, home sewn or homemade. If you would like to participate as a vendor, contact Susan Thomas of the Greencastle Farmer's Market committee by sending an e-mail to greencastlefarmersmarket@broadreach.net or call 720-0098. Vendors will provide their own tables and tents.
