Grounbreaking Tuesday for Crossroads USA arena

By ADAM COATES, Assistant Editor

Construction of a horse arena and expo center in Cloverdale is moving ahead with officials preparing to showcase their progress this week.

The public is invited to the site of the Crossroads USA Arena and Expo center at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a groundbreaking ceremony.

The list of dignitaries to attend the ceremony includes Senators Richard Bray and Connie Lawson, as well as State Rep. Amos Thomas and the Putnam County Commissioners, according to Jim Skinner, one of three partners of the horse arena project.

The other partners are Steve Jackson and Brent McCammack.

Skinner said workers have recently been constructing foundations for the 192,000-square-feet arena.

He said he hoped some of the steel beams for the arena could be erected for the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.

The site is located about a mile off U.S. 231 on Stardust Road, in Cloverdale. It is the third stoplight south of Interstate 70 on U.S. 231. Turn right at the stoplight and proceed about a mile to the horse arena site, which is on the right side of the road.

Skinner said there will be a tent set up.
