Herschel W. Orman, 89, Cloverdale, died at the Cloverdale Convalescent Rehabilitation Center on Monday.

He had resided in Cloverdale since 1983 and had been at the rehab center for a year. Born in Coal City, he was the son of Charley E. and DoraVora Belle (Sutton) Orman.

He had previously resided in West Lafayette and Mesa, Ariz.

He married Thelma M. Hinkley on Sept. 16, 1939. She preceded him in death on June 15, 1983.

He worked as a commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and HVAC engineer for the District 103 Public School Corp. in Mesa, Ariz., retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Air Corps from 1943-45 in WW II and was a fighter pilot and flight instructor. He was a 50-year member of the Kane Lodge 183 in Mesa.

Surviving is a sister, Pauline Lucille Kauffman, West Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by sister Vonna D. Williams.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with chaplain Harlan Kincade officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
