Betty J. Gibbens, 78, Brazil, died Sunday at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility, Brazil.

She was born in Vigo County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Cornwell) Tabor.

She attended Brazil High School and was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church, a Stanley Home Products distributor, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was the past president of the VFW Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary.

She married Gerald Gibbens on Aug. 9, 1947. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2004.

Survivors include her children Nancy Sue Ellis and husband Robert, Staunton, Linda Diane Pieske and husband Melvin, and Terry D. Gibbens and wife Sandra, all of Knightsville; one brother Jerry W. Tabor and wife Evelyn, Fredonia, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Thomas Tabor, and sisters Patricia Schroeder, Sara Bryan, Rosalie and Ruth Lee Tabor.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, with Rev. Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to services Thursday.
