Robert J. Berry, 57, Greencastle, died Tuesday at his residence.

Born at Franklin, he was the son of Robert J. Berry Sr. and Esther M. (Miller) Berry.

A 1967 graduate of Franklin High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in art and history from Ball State University, and a master's degree from DePauw University.

His teaching career spanned 31 years, beginning at Western Boone High School where he taught for one year before going to Cloverdale High School for six years. He taught art at Greencastle High School for 24 years, retiring in May 2006. He also instructed as a teaching fellow at the Indiana Academy in Muncie for the 1992-93 academic year.

He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle, the Greencastle Elks Lodge 1077, Sons of the American Legion, Greencastle, National Education Association, and Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. He also served many years as the Third Ward Democratic Precinct Committeeman for the City of Greencastle.

He married Judith A. Rabatin on June 14, 1975. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Esther M. Berry, Whiteland; three daughters, Anne E. Froehlich and husband William, Traverse City, Mich., Megan R. Inman and husband Charles, and Katharine M. Berry, all of Greencastle; three sisters, Carol Long and husband David, Franklin, Bernadette George and husband Don, Indianapolis, and Joann Young and husband James, Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mass is set for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Greencastle.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-7 p.m. Sunday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.

An Elks walk-through service is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
