Annual show benefits shelter

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Come "casual" and enjoy the third annual Hoosier Home Companion Show, Friday, April 28 at the DePauw University tennis and tract facility.

The 6:30 p.m. silent auction and cocktail hour will feature music by DPU Fuzzy Head Jazz Quartet, a cash bar with light snacks (no meal this year), and a variety of items offered for the silent auction bidding with all proceeds donated to the A-Way Home Shelter.

Entertainment will feature the latest Pinot Noir episode with Garrison (Bill Wieland) and Keillor (Larry Burton) as well as Dr. Macy's tongue-twisting commercials and his "Dr. Lee Vitra" skit. Music will set the feet tapping to the beat of the Fret Set, or humming with the Covered Bridge County Chorus.

Finishing each segment on a high note, Brittany Brumfield, a former Cloverdale High School student now attending DPU's School of Music, will perform a few of her favorite songs.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available at Gobin United Methodist Church Office, Fine Print Book Store, or from members of the Friends of A-Way Home Shelter.

Items offered this year include an Eddie Gill autographed Indiana Pacers T-shirt, Eddie Gill autographed photo, Danny Granger autographed Game Time Magazine, Indiana Fever autographed photo, four reserved seat tickets for an Indianapolis Indians game in May, Cincinnati Reds collectible figurine of Sean Casey, two free tickets for the 2005-06 season at the Indiana Repertory Theater, two free admission tickets to Kentucky Kingdom, two "pay one price ride passes" at Indiana Beach (May 1-June 30), two complimentary tickets for the 2005-06 season of the Indianapolis Symphony, four free passes to Regal Movie Theaters, and two teddy bears (anonymous donation).

Silent auction services donated include a 30-minute plane tour of Putnam County from Wayne Howery, a summer evening catered dinner for four in Bill Culler's 1900 Victorian home patio, two dozen cookies from Hannah Gellman, an afternoon of Big Walnut Kayaking along with a picnic from Kit Newkirk and Lynn Tweedie, and a choice of Mulligatawny Soup (chicken with rice and veggies and a bit of curry), Soupe au Pistou (French vegetable soup), Vichyssoise (cold potato and leek pureed soup) from Joanne Kissinger of Soup's On.
