Brown enters queen pageant

Ashley Brown wants to be someone whom younger girls can look up to.

That is why she entered as one of 10 candidates vying for the 2006 title of Putnam County Fair Queen.

The pageant is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in the Community Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Admission is $2.

The daughter of Wesley and Lori Evans, Fillmore, and the sister of Kyley and Cody, is a 2006 graduate of South Putnam High School. She will be attending the Premier Academy of Hair in hopes of owning her own hair salon in the future.

Brown was active in cheerleading, yearbook and performance choir in high school. She is also involved in New Providence Baptist Church. She says her hobbies are shopping, singing, and hanging out with her boyfriend and friends.

The best advice she offers to a younger person is to "Never let someone tell you that you aren't good enough. You can do anything you set your mind to."

She says the event that has had the greatest impact on her life was accepting Jesus Christ as her Saviour.

"It helped me to try and better myself in all areas of my life. It helped me to focus on the better things in negative situations," she said.

The person she admires most is her mother. "She has been through so much and is still strong."
