The Putnam County United Way recently announced a change of the guard.

Greencastle resident Cathryn Cassells Ensley was recently named the organization's new Executive Director.

Ensley is a former United Way board member and volunteer. She was appointed by the board to the interim position effective Aug. 1.

"I think it's a wonderful agency," Ensley said. "I'm very honored to be working with such a wonderful organization. We have a wonderful board that is very committed to the mission. It's very exciting."

Ensley said she was looking forward to getting started in her new position.

"This is an exciting time to be working for United Way," she said, "an organization that has gone through a period of steady growth, yet still has such a vital mission.

"The Putnam County United Way has always sought to determine the human service needs of this community, as well as a means to fund and support the organizations that provide such services."

Putnam County United Way Board President Amy Doan said she was pleased to have Ensley aboard.

"Our board feels that bringing Cathryn on board will take the United Way to the next level of success," Doan said.

Prior to her recent appointment, Ensley served as the 2006 Putnam County United Way Campaign Chair. She also volunteered for the United Way while working for the Indiana Department of Transportation, where she served as project manager.

In addition, Ensley served as Deputy Clerk-Treasurer for Greencastle and was a legislative assistant for the Indiana House of Representatives.

"I've done lots of volunteer work along the way," Ensley said.

Ensley graduated from DePauw University in 1998 and was a 1994 Greencastle High School graduate.

She and her husband Jim reside in Greencastle with their son Boyd.

She is a member of the Greencastle Civic League and previously served as a CASA volunteer and as a Main Street Greencastle board member.

The organization recently announced it hoped to raise $250,000 this year and had scheduled to start its 2006 fundraising efforts Friday with its 25th Golf Scramble at Old Hickory Golf Course.

There is also a kick-off breakfast at the Walden Inn planned for Sept. 6.

The 2006 campaign is scheduled to run from Sept. 6-Dec. 31.

Anyone interested in participating in the golf scramble should contact Ensley via e-mail at pcuwcensley@broadreach.net or call the United Way office at 653-5638.
