Hepler to entertain library

Friday, August 4, 2006

The halls will be filled with music at the Putnam County Public Library. On Monday, Aug. 14 from 6:30-8 p.m., the library will host jazz pianist Dave Hepler for an evening of jazz, blues, and improvisation.

Hepler started playing music professionally at 11-years-old with his father, and he reacquainted himself with the piano while studying music at Indiana University. In the mid-80's Hepler started working at the Midtown Grille and has since formed "The Dave Hepler Trio" with Harold Cardwell on drums and Matt Thompson on bass.

The night will begin with Hepler performing a solo set featuring jazz standards and his own compositions. He will later be joined by local musician Carol Hamm on bass.

Middle school and high school student musicians are invited to bring their own instruments for a musical improv session.

Copies of Hepler's CDs will be available on-site for purchase and signing. For more information, contact Margot Payne at 653-2755, ext. 118, or visit the library's website at www.putnam.lib.in.us.
