Car fire erupts in downtown lot

Friday, September 15, 2006

The cause of a car fire at the Old National Bank drive-through in Greencastle was undetermined early Friday.

The Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched to Old National Bank, 1 N. Indiana St., for a reported car fire in the bank's drive-through.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a 1995 Dodge Intrepid parked in a space off of the drive-through with flames coming from the engine.

Pat Modlin, assistant manager of Old National Bank and owner of the vehicle, said that the car had not been running hot and that she had just had it checked last week.

"It's toast," Modlin said about her 10 year old car she loved.

Firefighters are unsure as to how the fire started, but they believe it started around the manifold. Nobody was inside the car at the time of the fire.

Firefighters estimate damage to be at $2,000.
