Volunteers needed for project day

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

DePauw University's Hartman House will sponsor the 2006 Greencastle Make A Difference Week on Monday, Oct. 23 to Saturday, Oct, 28 with a variety of events on campus culminating in a Make A Difference Day project on Saturday.

This national day of service and volunteerism will involve community members and DePauw students.

Millions of Americans across the country are expected to spend the 16th Make A Difference Day doing volunteer projects to improve their communities and help neighbors in need. This day is the largest community service effort in the nation, with projects ranging from a countywide cleanup involving thousands of people to a mentoring program in which members of a sorority provided one-on-one support to 35 underprivileged children.

This year's Greencastle Make A Difference Day consists of a Jaycee Park renovation project in conjunction with the Greencastle Parks Department. Having been recently handed back over to the city, Jaycee Park is in much need of an update.

The DePauw community joins Greencastle businesses, service organizations, and local schools to support the continued efforts of the Parks Department. Volunteers are needed to work from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 28, and donations of goods and money to help cover project costs for the Parks Department.

For more information on the project, contact Carly Hammel at 658-4863 or the Hartman House at 658-4622, or email makeadifferenceday2006@gmail.com.
