Hicks joins Eagles 1,000 point club

He's hit a game-winning homerun, forced quarterbacks to fumble and now Matt Hicks adds one more point to his already impressive sports resume, the 1,000-point club.

With 6:33 left in the third quarter of the Eagles game with Riverton Parke Saturday, Hicks pulled up and drained a three-pointer to score his 1,000th point.

After hitting the trey, the game was stopped momentary, for Hicks to be recognized. He was presented a white and brown basketball by South Putnam's Athletic Director Keith Puckett.

'It's a big accomplishment for me,' Hicks said. 'It's a basketball players dream to be part of the 1,000 point club.'

Even though he has been the backbone of the teams' offense, Hick attributes is success to how his team plays.

'With as good of a team we have, points just come to you, you don't have to look to score them,' he said

Hicks' accomplishments have gone beyond the scoreboard and his coach Kyle Brewer has seen them.

'The greatest thing that I can say about Matt is he deserves to be honored for 1,000 points,1 Brewer said. 1He does more for the team than score points. He leads the team and is usually in double digits most of the nights in rebounding.

1It's been exciting to see him mature as player from his freshman year to his senior year. He is a reliable and reasonable athlete and has really grown to be a big part of this team,1 Brewer said.

Going into Saturday's game, Hicks was standing at 992 points for a career total and said that he had no idea that he was that close to 1,000 points. He also said that he is just going to continue to prepare for the last part of the season and making sure that the team gets the best five players on the court for the rest of the season.

So far this season, Hicks has scored 325 points.
