Knights knock off Tier Cubs, 75-53

BRAZIL -- A 10-day break might have been too long Greencastle.

After coming off the break, the Tiger Cubs lost to Northview 75-53, Tuesday.

"Being off for 10 days could have been a factor," GHS Coach Troy Greenlee said. "I'm not using it as an excuse, but we were flat (Tuesday) and that is very uncharacteristic us."

Greencastle started off fast when Erick Burgeson drained a three-pointer 90seconds into the game.

Northview went on an 11 point run the next two minutes to lift itself up by 10 at 13-3 with just under four minutes to go in the quarter.

Both teams exchanged a couple more baskets but after the first quarter, Greencastle trailed 17-9.

Greencastle was in the game up until the 5:22 mark in the second quarter when Northview went on a run that the Tiger Cubs never recovered from. For nearly three minutes, Northview owned the paint. Between Josiah Brock and Nick Wells, the Knights were unstoppable. Brock and Wells combined for 17 of Northview's 20-second quarter points. On top of scoring 17 points, they had two blocks and seven rebounds on which most of their points came from, on second chance shots.

"We didn't box out as well as we needed to too and they got too many second chance shots," Greenlee said. "And I think that was a big part of the game."

The Tiger Cubs finally got on the board in the second period when Brian hit a free throw with 2:30 minutes to go in the quarter. For the remainder of the quarter Greencastle h it a few buckets here and there but couldn't get anything started and went into the half trailing 37-22.

The second half didn't prove to be any more favorable than the first for Greencastle. Northview continued to control the momentum in the second half, this time from the outside. Instead of tearing up the paint with their 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-8 post players, Northview went to the outside shooters. Matt Stuckey stepped up in the third quarter, draining 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 behind the arch.

The Tiger Cubs stepped up and tried to beat the Knights out of the paint with some shooting of their own, but it didn't work as well as they had hoped. Greencastle went 2-for-6 from downtown, but were able to post their best quarter with 17 points. But the Knights scored 21 points to maintain their lead.

Northview put the finishing touches on, opening the fourth quarter up with a 7-0 spurt. Greencastle fought back with a 5-0 run of their own, but Greencastle could never catch back up and the Knights moved on to win their eighth straight game.

"I though we had times in the game where we could have cut the game down to four points, but didn't and we needed to take advantage of the those times," Greenlee said.

Michael Richardson paced the Tiger Cubs with 10 points while Burgeson and Cal Gard followed up with nine points each. Brennan Burks chipped in seven points while Austin Miller came off the bench for six points and Troyer and Zach Remsburg had five each. Kendall Faust scored two points.

The Tiger are now 9-10 on the season and will host the Mounties of Southmont starting at 6 p.m. on Friday.
