Tiger Cubs fall to 0-4

CLINTON -- The Greencastle High School softball team fell to 0-4 Tuesday after losing to South Vermillion, 10-0.

The Tiger Cubs tallied three hits with Tabitha Wilson hitting a triple. Stevie Woodall and Kylie Rowings had one hit each.

"South Vermillion hit the ball well," GHS Coach Kyle Clearwaters said

The Tiger Cubs are back in action on Friday when they travel to Crawfordsville for a 6 p.m. game.

North Putnam blanked by Speedway, 5-0

SPEEDWAY -- The North Putnam softball team lost to West Central Conference foe Speedway, 5-0, for the second straight time on Tuesday.

The Cougars totaled two hits for the day with Brook Miller and Ashley Doyle having one each.

Miller went the distance for the Cougars, striking out one batter and giving up four hits and five runs.

The Sparkplugs scored one in the first and four in the fourth for the final

On Monday, the Cougars lost to Speedway, 5-2.

The Cougars scored first in the first inning when Alyssa Simpson hit A double, scoring Miller then got their second run when Logan Doyle scored on a Sparkplug error.

Speedway put all five of their runs on the board in the fifth inning for the final.

Miller earned the loss for the Cougars. She fanned six batters and gave up seven hits and five earned runs.

The Cougars totaled seven hits with Miller pacing them with two hits while Chelsea Greene, Simpson and Doyle having one hit each.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when they host Western Boone in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.

Clovers get first win of season

After rallying back, Cloverdale finally got a win at home

The Cloverdale softball team picked up its first win of season Tuesday, knocking off west Central Conference foe Monrovia 3-1 after Erica Lotz pinched hit in the bottom of the sixth and drove in the winning runs. Hannah Monnett scored earlier in the inning on Kristen McCammon's single.

The Clovers collected eight hits and Nicole Mowery fanned five batters and gave up five hits and one run.

The Clovers are back in action on Monday when they travel to North Putnam for another WCC matchup starting at 4:30 p.m.

Eagles win in extra frames

CLAYTON -- After eight innings, the South Putnam High School softball team won its game with Cascade by a count of 1-0.

"I'm very pleased with the way the kids have been able to stay focused and maintain a high level of play against a good Cascade team and come away with two conference wins," SPHS Coach Allen Rains said.

The Eagles racked up five hits led by Meghan Canary who had three hits that included two doubles. Megan Robinson and Jessica Briones had the other two hits.

Briones went the distance for the Eagles, striking out four Cadets and giving up seven hits.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday when they travel to North Montgomery for a 5 p.m. start.
