Eagle boys finihs first, girls second in three-way meet

The South Putnam High School boys' track team picked up a win Tuesday at home in a three way meet with Clay City and Shakamak.

The Eagles won with 73 points while the Eels came in second with 61 points and Shakamak finished third with 33 points.

The Eagles finished first in nine different events with Bryce Birkemeier leading the way with three individual wins. He won the 100-meter dash, the long jump and the 200-meter dash.

In girls' action, the Eagles finished second in the meet with a score of 58 while Clay City won the meet with 82 points and Shakamak came in third with 24 points.

Shelby Johnston led the Eagles with two individual wins in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. She finished the 100 in 17.9 and won the 300 with a time of 52.2.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday when they take part in the Cascade Invitational at 5 p.m.
