Cougars to take on Speedway

Thursday, October 5, 2006

The undefeated North Putnam Cougars will face conference foe Speedway at home on Friday.

The Cougars (7-0, 5-0 WCC) are having their best season since the 1991 campaign when they also won their first seven games of the season.

They moved up to No. 3 in the Associated Press Indiana high school football poll this week after picking up a 35-14 victory over Monrovia last Friday.

This week, however, the Cougars will face a much different opponent in the form of the Sparkplugs.

Speedway will enter Friday's game with a 5-2 record, including a 3-1 mark in WCC action.

The Sparkplugs' lone conference loss was to the Cascade Cadets on Sept. 22.

Speedway is averaging 27.6 points per game while surrendering an average of 8.4.

The Cougars will come into Friday's contest averaging 34.9 points per game on offense and allowing only 9.6 points per game on defense.

The Cougars and Sparkplugs will kick off on Friday at North Putnam starting at 7 p.m.
