Tiger Cubs get WCC win over Cadets

The Greencastle High School varsity volleyball team's magic number for clinching a West Central Conference championship is down to one.

The Tiger Cubs defeated the Cascade Cadets at home on Wednesday in three games to improve to 5-0 in the conference and 16-4 overall.

They won the first game in impressive fashion, 25-10, but the second and third games provided more of a challenge for Greencastle.

It won the second game, 25-21 and the third, 25-19.

"Overall I was happy with our play, but we have some self discipline and game control issues to work on before the sectionals," Lowe said.

Olivia Miller had six blocks, seven kills, 26 digs and one point for the Tiger Cubs.

Lauren Robertson contributed nine digs, 12 kills, five points and one assist to the effort.

Carmen Cross had one block and one attack, and Laura Weatherford had four blocks, 10 digs, four kills, three points and four assists.

Savannah Provine had seven sets, five assists and one point for Greencastle. She also went 2-of-2 at the service line.

Tabitha Wilson had five digs and five serve receptions, and Megan Clodfelter had 28 digs, five kills, 16 points and two aces, going a perfect 21-of-21 in serves.

Kristen Flint chipped in with 10 blocks, 12 digs, two kills, 11 points and went 16-of-16 behind the service line.

Kelsey Hennette had two blocks, 21 assists, 17 digs, eight points, three aces, one kill and went 14-of-15 in serves.

Kayla Nobles had one dig and one point.

Greencastle can clinch the WCC crown tonight when they travel to South Putnam to face the Eagles.

"We are excited about this opportunities to accomplish one of our team goals," Lowe said.

In junior varsity action, Greencastle defeated the Cadets in two games, 25-16, 25-16.

Lindsey Davis had 11 digs, one assist and three attacks for Greencastle, and Erika Collins contributed three digs, one kill and went 4-of-4 in serves.

Katey Beck had one dig, one stuff block and one attack, and Nobles contributed five digs, three attacks, one kill and four aces.

Rebecca Norlin had two attacks, and Samantha Kuchler had eight digs, five attacks, one kill, two aces and went 5-of-5 in serves.

Brooke Lewis contributed six digs, seven blocks, two stuff blocks, 15 attacks, three kills, two aces and went 10-of-11 in serves.

Sarah Land had nine digs, two blocks, one stuff block, nine attacks, three kills and went 11-of-11 behind the service line, and Veronica Sawyer had two digs, four assists and one attack.

The Tiger Cubs' match with the Eagles will begin at 6 p.m.
