The Cloverdale High School varsity volleyball team lost its season closer to Linton on Thursday, 25-12, 25-16, 27-25.

Hanna Monnett led the Clovers from the service line with six points and one ace, while Emily Puffer and Amber Curtis had four points each. Stephanie Tutterow had three points and Samantha Garrison and Kristen Schroer had one point each.

Monnett led the defense with 18 digs, while Ashley Koosman had 15 and Tutterow had 12.

Puffer led the Clovers at the net with eight kills, while Ashley Arnold had seven and Koosman had three. Monnett had two kills for the night.

Schroer had big night, recording 10 blocks, while Arnold had six and Monnett and Puffer had two blocks each. Puffer had had eight set assists with Curtis pitching in six.

"We got to a slow start in the first game, but the next two were very exciting," CHS coach Kathy Moore said. "It was fast paced and thrilling to watch the girls play so well against last year's sectional champions. I was proud of the girls and we are looking forward to the sectional next week."

In junior varsity action, the Clovers lost 25-10, 25-11 to end the season with an 18-8 record.Whitney Bond had five points, two aces and three digs while Maria Skiles had four points, two kills, three digs and four assists. Alesha Evans had three points, four kills and three digs and Elizabeth Cheatham had two kills.

The Clovers play in the sectional tournament Tuesday as they face South Vermillion at Tri-West at 6 p.m.

Tiger Cubs win last game of season

The Greencastle High School varsity volleyball team ended its regular season Thursday with a when win over Riverton Park, 25-16, 29-27, 25-20.

The Tiger Cubs completed the regular season with a 20-6 record and a 5-1 West Central Conference Record.

"This was a fantastic way to finish the regular season. I am proud of the growth and maturity of this team, both varsity and junior varsity," GHS coach Trish Lowe said. "These young ladies have exceeded our expectations with 20 wins in the varsity and the JV getting nine. This has been a very unselfish group."

Kelsey Hennette made the night for the Tiger Cubs with 19 assists, 11 digs and going 13-for-13 serving with two aces, earning her 69th service ace, breaking Josie Bode's 1996 ace serving record. She also had seven points, three blocks and three kills.

Olivia Miller helped the Tiger Cubs with 13 blocks in which four were stuffs, nine kills, 17 digs, 16 points and five aces, while Lauren Robertson had 11 kills, 18 digs, three points, one ace and one stuff block. Alysa Hile had 14 assists and 19 digs and one kill while Laura Weatherford had two kills, eight digs, five blocks in which one was a stuff and Stefanie Masten pitched in one one block and one kill.

Tabitha Wilson had eight digs, eight points, and two aces, while Megan Clodfelter had 19 digs, nine points, two aces and three kills. Kristen Flint had nine blocks in which three were stuffs, four digs and four kills.

"We played a tough opponent and played aggressive and smart," Lowe said."Tabitha made some great defensive plays for us and our blockers, Miller and Flint, and hitters, Miller and Robertson, did a great job on the net."

In junior varsity action, the Tiger Cubs defeated Riverton Parke 25-20, 25-23, 15-13.

Danielle Thompson led the Tiger Cubs offense with five kills, six digs and one assist, while Savannah Provine had four kills and seven assists and four digs. Carmen Cross had two kills and 14 digs. Erika Collins went 15-for-16 serving and had three digs.

Sarah Land led the Greencastle defense with 11 digs, one stuff block and four kills, while serving 6-for-6. Dee Wood had one assist and two digs, while Brooke Lewis had 19 digs and three kills. Marlee Rose had one dig.

The Tiger Cubs are back in action on Saturday when they take on Sullivan in sectional play at MacAnally at 12:30 p.m.

The South Putnam varsity volleyball team lost to Rockville Thursday in four games, 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20.

Individual leaders for the Eagles included Katelyn Hammond with five points, two aces and 13 assists. Shelby Johnston had nine points, three aces two kills and one block, while Hannah Amers had seven points, one ace and three kills. C.J. Searles added six points, one ace, four kills and six blocks for the Eagles.

Defensively, Danielle McHugh had 10 digs in the match.

The Eagles play their last game of the season at North Vermillion Monday at 6 p.m.
