MONROVIA -- On a night where the Indiana Pacers scored 93 points, the Cloverdale boys' varsity basketball nearly outscored them.

Displaying near flawless three-point shooting throughout the contest, the Clovers were boiling-hot Friday night, torching the Monrovia nets for 17 three-point field goals, while shooting 60 percent from the field. Led by 29 first half points by senior guard Chase Haltom, Cloverdale rolled past Monrovia, 90-53.

"It was there tonight," Cloverdale Coach Pat Rady said. "And we were hitting."

The Clovers looked flawless from the start of the game, scoring 28 first-quarter points. With 2:30 remaining in the first quarter, Cloverdale already had 25 points. Haltom and fellow guard Kyle McCammon were both draining three-pointers from all over the court.

Haltom went 5-of-5 in the first quarter, McCammon hit two and Michael Neese added another, giving the Clovers eight first-quarter three-point field goals. They were on pace to hit 32 three-point field goals and score 112 points in the game.

Eight minutes into the game, it appeared Monrovia didn't have a prayer.

Cloverdale continued its hot shooting throughout the remainder of the first half. Haltom went 9-of-10 from beyond the arc in the first half, hitting his first six three-pointers. Cloverdale had 12 three-pointers and a comfortable 48-30 lead, going into halftime.

The third quarter slowed the pace of the game considerably. However, it belonged to McCammon, as he scored eight points, leading the Clovers to 67-37 lead going into the final period.

Although eight minutes remained, the Bulldogs' fate was sealed.

"Monrovia is well-coached," Rady said. "We knew they'd make a run if we didn't stay focused. But we stayed focused."

Despite Haltom and McCammon sitting out for the majority of the fourth quarter, the Clovers were able to play a solid fourth quarter, closing the game with solid momentum.

"I think it's the best game we've played all year," Cloverdale Coach Pat Rady said. "We had more consistency throughout than we've had all year."

Haltom led the Clovers with 32 points, while McCammon added 18 points to the Cloverdale effort. Center Luke Lovins scored 14 rebounds and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Christian Cheatham added 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Neese rounded out the big-five, scoring nine points and dishing out four assists.

Monrovia was led in scoring by Brock Benefiel with 20 points. Point guard Sam Brooks added 12 points and seven assists.

The Clovers held the Bulldogs to just 34 percent shooting from the field.

Cloverdale, currently 5-1 on the season, hosts Tri-West Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
