MONROVIA -- From the opening tip, Friday night was just not the Cloverdale girls' varsity team's night.

Trailing throughout the entire contest, and shooting just 27 percent from the field, the Clovers lost to Monrovia, 64-42, Friday.

Monrovia got off to a hot start, while Cloverdale struggled to get anything going offensively. The Bulldogs hit their first five shots, jumping to a 12-0 lead.

Chelsie Haltom finally got the Clovers on the board, grabbing an offensive rebound and banking a shot, followed by a Hannah Monnett jumper from Ashley Koosman. When Monnett then hit a three-point field goal at the end of the first quarter, closing the deficit to 18-9, it appeared the Clovers had momentum.

In fact, they started the second quarter by knocking down their first two field goals, closing a 7-0 run. Cloverdale continued to battle for the remainder of the period, facing a 36-26 deficit at halftime.

When Emily Puffer hit a three-point field goal early in the third quarter, Cloverdale was within nine points.

However, that was the closest the Clovers would come. The Bulldogs defense held Cloverdale to just 13 points for the remainder of the game.

Monnett led the Clovers in scoring with 10 points, while Koosman added eight points and Puffer and Haltom had six. Kristen Schroer led the Clovers in rebounding with six boards, while Monnett and Koosman added five each.

Monnett, along with Heather Moon, also had three steals each in the game. The Clovers had 13 steals in the game.

Monrovia's Rachel Hadley dominated the interior, hitting 9-of-10 field goals and scoring 19 points. Shayla Black added 14 points and six assists for the Bulldogs.

Cloverdale competes in the Brown County Invitational, starting Dec. 29 at 6 p.m.
