After coming off a rough finish in the Scottsburg Tournament, the Greencastle High School wrestling team bounced back with a 34-29 win over Danville Wednesday.

The Tiger Cubs started off strong against the Warriors taking an early, 6-0, lead after Chad Nichols pinned his opponent at the 4:14 mark in the third period of the 130-pound class over Matt Leondis.

Greencastle's lead was short lived, however, as Danville came back and tied the score 6-all with a pin in the 135-pound match and took the lead after a decision win in the 140-pound division. GHS tied it back up, 10-all, when Chris Pingleton won his bout in the 145-pound weight class with a 15-5 decision over Nick Wynch.

Both teams took their turns holding the lead, but it was Greencastle that caught the break. After receiving forfeit wins in the 215-, 103- and 112-weight classes, the Tiger Cubs took a demanding 34-19 lead. Danville won the last bout of the evening with a pin for the final.

Even though the Tiger Cubs won the dual, GHS Coach Russ Hesler wasn't pleased with the way they performed.

"Someone didn't tell our guys we were off Christmas break," Hesler said.

The Tiger Cubs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Avon for another weekend tournament, starting at 9 a.m.
