The North Putnam girls' basketball team took a tough loss to Western Boone Tuesday, 52-38.

Laura Blaydes led the Cougars with 24 points, while Brook Miller added 10 points to the effort.

"Western Boone is one of the best defensive teams we'll play this year," North Putnam Coach Kevin Smith said. "They do a lot to disrupt you offensively."

Smith said the Cougars played good basketball for the majority of the game. However, the Stars went on a 10-0 run to start the second quarter, and North Putnam was never able to recover.

"We just couldn't get get over that hump," Smith said.

The Cougars fall to 3-9 on the season, and play at Monrovia Friday at 6 p.m.
