CLAYTON--Cloverdale's girls played Cascade close in a nonconference game on Dec. 30, but the Clovers didn't come anywhere near beating the Cadets in the West Central Conference rematch Friday.

Cascade (7-8, 3-1 WCC) marched off to a convincing 56-32 victory in the

Cadets' gym. Cloverdale (6-8, 0-2 WCC) struggled offensively, especially in the first half when it scored 10 points to Cascade's 27. For the game, the Clovers were 12-of-52 on field goals including 2-of-19 on 3-pointers.

The Clovers had a three-game winning streak shattered.

"It's a very, very disappointing loss for me and for the girls," Cloverdale coach Bruce Cook said. "We felt like we had a little bit of momentum."

Cloverdale lost to the Cadets 43-37 in the Brown County tournament.

"This really sticks in your throat after playing them a six-point game the first time," Cook said. "They wanted the game more than we did and they played harder than we did. I felt like their defense shut us down. They were really well prepared mentally and physically. They got after us."

The Clovers also contributed to their problems offensively.

"We never got started," Cook said. "We're a 33 or 34 percent three-point shooting team and we play against 3-2 zones all the time. We even use one, so we practice against it. We settled for the three-point shots and they weren't that good. We didn't look for gaps with dribble penetration and I didn't feel like our passes were crisp on the perimeter."

Heather Moon led the Clovers with 13 points. Katie Smith, a 5-10 senior

forward, had 22 points and Katie Nease, a 6-foot center, had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Clovers travel to South Vermillion today for a 2:30 p.m. game.

"After a sound defeat like this, we need to bounce back mentally and it's tough to do," Cook said.
