LIZTON -- The South Putnam High School wrestling team will be heading into the West Central Conference meet Saturday on the heels of a big win.

The Eagles defeated Tri-West, 53-21, Tuesday and ended the regular season with a winning record.

But the coach feels there still room for improvement.

"We need to execute much better if we want to do well in the WCC tournament," SPHS Coach Scott Miller said.

The Eagles won every match except for four of them. Four of them were by way of forfeit and two of them were by decision. Bo Jackson won the 140-pound class with an 18-11 decision and Jacob Parish won with a technical decision with a score of 18-2. Jon Parker won by decision in the 152-pound class with a score of 3-2.

The rest of the Eagles wins were by pin fall.

Seth Green pinned Doug Shelton in 3:55 in the 119-pound class while Brad Bunten pinned Jake Ellerin 3:42.

In junior varsity action, Hank Goldman pinned Zach Stetzel in 2:28.

The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 18-13 and will wrestle in the WCC meet on Saturday at Cloverdale starting at 9 a.m.

Cougars overpower Warriors

The North Putnam High School wrestling team took down the Turkey Run Warriors 48-29, Tuesday.

The Cougars posted their 17th win of the season, finishing with a record 17-6 for the regular season.

The Cougars won eight of the matches Tuesday with three of them coming by way of pin fall.

Jacob Smith won the 119-pound class with a pin while BJ. Brewer won the 135-pound class. A.J. Brewer also won the 140-pound class with a pin.

The Cougars also wrestled over the weekend in the Cascade Quad where they defeated Cascade 39-37 and Indianapolis Northwest 52-37.

The Cougars also had two champions in Brewer. winning the 135-pound class and Emmett Boruff in the 275-pound class.

The Cougars are back in Action on Saturday when they travel to Cloverdale for the WCC meet at 9 a.m.
