James Louis "Jim" Peck Jr., 66, died Sunday at Major Hospital, Shelbyville.

Born in Terre Haute, he was the son of James Louis Peck Sr. and Elizabeth J. Fallain. He married M. Janet Peck, and she survives.

He was employed by the Greencastle Community School Corporation from 1975-87, serving as superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, assistant principal and teacher. Also he was the superintendent of Shelbyville Schools from 1993-2005, before retiring, and superintendent of Bedford North Lawrence Community Schools from 1987-93. From 1966-75, he was athletic director of varsity basketball and assistant baseball coach for Schulte High School in Terre Haute. From 1965-68, he was baseball coach and assistant basketball coach at North Central High School in Farmersburg.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Kiwanis in Greencastle. He was a 1958 graduate of Schutle High School and a 1964 graduate of Indiana State University with a bachelor's degree, master's degree and education science doctorate degree.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Vassar and husband Adam, Shelbyville; a son, James Fallain Peck, Shelbyville; two grandchildren; a brother, John Peck and wife Margaret Peck, Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shelbyville with Father Chris Craig officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Terre Haute.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Funeral Home Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
