Weatherford headed to state finals

INDIANAPOLIS -- Greencastle cross country runner Andy Weatherford is headed back to the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals.

Weatherford posted an 11th-place finish Saturday at the Franklin Central Semistate to advance to the state championships for the second consecutive season.

The Greencastle senior finished with a time of 15 minutes, 45.21 seconds to advance for the second consecutive season.

The top 15 individuals advance to the state championship.

First place overall was claimed be De'Sean Turner of Warren Central, who finished with a time of 15:09.15.

Weatherford edged Turner out by a fraction of a second last spring when he won the IHSAA state track and field championship in the 1,600-meter run.

Weatherford will be in action at the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals Saturday at 1:45 p.m. in Terre Haute.

The race will be run at the Wabash Valley Sports Center on the LaVern Championship Cross Country course.

Weatherford posted a 10th-place finish at last year's state finals, also held in Terre Haute.
