Council members re-elected

Although they ran against no one, four Putnam County Council Republicans were happy to be re-elected Tuesday.

Republicans Darrel Thomas, Roger Deck, Mitch Proctor and H. Keith Berry all ran unopposed in Tuesday's election.

Thomas received a total of 2,507 votes while Berry tallied 1,949. Deck earned 1,899 and Proctor tallied 949 votes.

Proctor, Russellville, serves in District 1 while Deck, Coatesville, serves in District 2. Berry, Cloverdale, serves in District 3 and Thomas, Greencastle serves in District 4.

Thomas serves Greencastle North, First North, First South, Second West, Second East, Third East, Third West, Fourth West, Fourth East, Limedale, and Foxridge precincts.

Deck serves Floyd West, Floyd East, Monroe East, Monroe West, Marion North, Marion South and Jefferson precincts.

Berry serves all Cloverdale Townships in addition to Madison, Washington and Warren precincts. Proctor serves Russell, Franklin North, Franklin South, Jackson and Clinton precincts.

All were running for re-election.

As the election results were being tallied Tuesday, Proctor was pleased to see such a high turnout.

"I'm thrilled people got out and voted," he said. "I'm looking forward to the next four years. I think we'll see some positive growth in Putnam County."

Berry said he's enjoyed serving and will continue to do so.

"It's been an honor for me to serve the people of Putnam County," Berry said. "We've had some challenges, but we worked through them.

"We've got some more challenging things ahead of us, but there are a lot of opportunities out there."

Thomas said he already served through his "break-in" period, and was looking forward to the "experienced period."

"There's a lot of issues to deal with in the next few years," he said.

Deck said he will continue to run on the same platform he campaigned on, stressing helping the needs of the county.

"My phone is always available, and so is my ear," he said.

Deck replaces Richard Lyon, who elected not to seek re-election.
