Weatherford to run at Indiana University

Greencastle High School's Andy Weatherford is trading in his purple and gray for cream and crimson.

The GHS senior track and cross country runner signed a letter of intent Friday to run track and cross country for the Hoosiers next fall.

"It feels great," Weatherford said after signing his letter. "Not only did I find the school that's right for me, but it's nice to have the whole recruiting process over and done with."

Since finishing first in the West Central Conference cross country meet on Oct. 7, Weatherford has been all over the country.

He has visited Oklahoma State, Stanford and Syracuse in the last month.

When it came to choosing the college he would attend, Weatherford said it all came down to IU's coach.

"I've really got a lot of confidence in Coach (Robert) Chapman," Weatherford said. "I think he's realty going to help me get done the things I want to get done.

"It came down to Stanford and IU, and I just felt like I had a lot of confidence in Coach Chapman."

Tiger Cubs boys' track and cross country coach Mike Schimpf was on hand for the signing and said that Weatherford, a two-time state track champion in the 1,600-meter run, has made an informed decision.

"It's an exciting day," Schimpf said. "It's a big decision out of his way, and he worked really hard to make sure he made the right one."
