Library Board reads Chapter A Day

Putnam County Public Library adds a new addition to its website.

Library Director Alice Greenburg informed the library board during its meeting Wednesday that Margot Payne, director of community relations, presented the idea to have a Chapter a Day program on the website. This program allows patrons to subscribe for a half-hour day reading through the Wisconsin Public Radio. The radio station will play the chapter a day until the book is completed and another has started.

Patrons will need RealPlayer program on their computers in order to listen.

The next book patrons can listen to is "The New Woman: A Staggerford Novel" by Jon Hassler from Monday to Friday, Dec. 22.

The board also discussed 2007 board meeting schedule and holiday closing schedule. The board will meet regularly on the fourth Wednesday of the month, except in March, July and December when it will meet on the third Wednesday.

The library will be closed on all major holidays. Just remind patrons, the library will close its doors for Thanksgiving starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22.

In other business, the board:

-- Learned that Greenburg attended a couple of workshops. One of these workshops was on disaster preparedness and recovery of materials. Greenburg said she learned how to recover dirty books, wet papers and other materials.

-- Learned that the Geocaching program is going well. Greenburg said the library has had a few people come in to find the items and post their information on the Geocaching website.

The next regularly schedule board meeting is set for Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Kwianis Room. This meeting is open to the public.
