Despite getting 11 points from Brook Miller and 10 from Shawna Johnston, the North Putnam High School girls' basketball dropped to 1-6 Tuesday after suffering a 45-38 loss to the Tri-West Bruins.

Tri-West took an 11-8 lead into the second quarter and outscored the Cougars, 9-3, in the second frame to take a 20-11 lead into halftime.

NPHS rebounded strongly in the third period, outscoring the Bruins, 17-5, but Tri-West doubled up the Cougars in the fourth, 20-10.

Offensively, the Cougars fired 16-of-44 from the field in teh contest while going 3-for-8 from the free throw line.

Tri-West, however, outshot the Cougars from the free throw line, going 12-of-21.

North outrebounded the Bruins in the game, 27-26. Johnston had eight rebounds in the loss.

Carlye McGaughey chipped in six points while Chelsea Greene had five. Leah Crosby also had four points while Taylor Alles rounded out North Putnam's offensive output with two points.

Junior varsity results for the Cougars were not known at press time.

NPHS will face South Vermillion on the road Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m.

Eagles fall to Wildcats

CLINTON -- The South Putnam girls' basketball team dropped to 3-4 on the season Tuesday after losing to South Vermillion on the road, 56-33.

South Putnam tallied just one point in the first quarter and trailed, 26-13, by halftime.

SPHS was paced by Meghan Canary and C.J. Searles, both of whom scored six points. Samantha Stanifer and Bailey Birt each had five points while Oceaia Boetjer, Heather Hughes and Leeah Butts all had three points. Megan Robinson also had two points.

In junior varsity action, South Putnam lost , 41-27.

The Eagles (3-4) will face Cascade at home Friday, beginning at 6 p.m.
