Tiger Sharks dominate N. Putnam at home

The Greencastle Tiger Sharks just keep on rolling.

GHS's boys' and girls' swimming teams picked up their second straight win Thursday at home against North Putnam.

the Tiger Shark boys downed the Cougars 121-61, and the girls' team picked up a 143-40 victory over North Putnam.

In the boys' meet, Greencastle picked up eight first-place finishes in 11 events, including a sweep of the three relay races.

Luke Crimmins, Pete Edberg, Miles Salman and Nick Stevens emerged with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of one minute, 54.33 seconds, while Salman, Stevens, Dustin Payne and Crimmins took the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing at the 1:39.53 mark.

Finishing the night in relay action for the tiger Sharks was the team of Austin Woodall, Payne, Edberg and Crimmins, who earned the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:48.08.

Greencastle was also hot in the individual races, with Payne and Stevens each picking up wins.

Payne won the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 25.57 seconds, and Stevens won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.87.

Woodall was a winner in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at the 2:29.56 mark, and Luiz Carodso picked up a victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.60.

William Dory rounded out the wins for Greencastle with a 5:36.09 finish in the 500-yard freestyle race.

North Putnam picked up three victories on the night, as Jon Taggert earned the win in the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 2:11.73, and Brian Rhoden won the one-meter dive with a score of 224.85.

Kyle Smith was also a winner for the Cougars, capturing a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.74 seconds.

The Tiger Sharks picked up an even more lopsided win over the Cougars in the girls' meet, with Greencastle taking wins in all 11 events.

Greencastle started with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as Ashley Smith, Caitlin Gannaway, Melissa Ball and Danielle Tesmer finished with a time of 2:17.58.

GHS also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Kelsey Murtaugh, Sara Culler, Morgan Terry and Ashley Allred finishing with a time of 1:54.789. The Tiger Sharks finished their sweep of relay action, as Jackie Cantonwine, Emma Hazel, Melissa Ball and Kelsey Murtaugh won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:24.54.

Cantonwine was a winner in individual action as well, finishing the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 2:16.88. Gannaway won the 200-yard individual medley at the 2:47.44 mark, and Culler won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:24.47.

Ashley Allred captured the victoryin the 100-yard freestyle race at the 1:01.81 mark, and Terry was a winner in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:54.76.

Terry also earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:21.35.

Murtaugh won the 100-yard backstroke for the Tiger sharks, finishing at the 1:01.88 mark

North Putnam picked up just two second-place finishes on the night, both from Katie Wilcox.

Wilcox captured second place in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 27.87 seconds, three tenths of a second behind Greencastle's Erika Collins.

She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.85.

The Tiger Sharks will be back in the pool Dec. 27 when they participate in the Mooresville Invitational at 9 a.m. while the Cougars are off until Jan. 4, when they will host Covenant Christian and North Montgomery for a three-way meet at 5:30 p.m.
