DePauw University senior defensive end Dustin Hertel was recently selected to the D3football.com All-America honorable mention team.

The team was announced Saturday prior to the NCAA Division III Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

Hertel was also selected to participate in the Aztec Bowl. Hertel led a defense that allowed just 150 yards in a 28-7 victory over Mexico Saturday.

He tallied nine tackles, including two solo tackles, while finishing with three tackles for 17 yards in losses. Hertel also forced a fumble in the contest.

Former DePauw coach Nick Mourouzis served as an assistant coach in the game for the second straight season.

During the season, Hertel led the 6-4 Tigers and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with 27.5 tackles for losses totaling 155 yards, setting a school and conference record in the process.

He also tied a conference record with 16 sacks and five forced fumbles.

Hertel was second on the Tigers this year with 85 total tackles. He recovered three fumbles and had one interception that he returned for a touchdown.

He was a first-team All-SCAC selection in 2004 and a second-team choice last year. He was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year this season.
