DPU women to face Gorlocks

It may be December, but the DePauw University women's basketball team is on fire.

The Tigers, ranked sixth in the nation in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches' poll and fifth by D3hoops.com, will look to extend their current winning streak to seven Wednesday when they travel to Webster University in St. Louis to take on the Gorlocks.

DPU is coming off a 22-point win over Wittenberg Sunday despite playing without leading scorer Liz Bondi, who is still listed as day-to-day with a knee injury.

The Tigers were able to pick up the slack on offense against Wittenberg.

Emily Marshall scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.

DePauw (7-1) had a 44-23 advantage over Wittenberg at the end of the first half. The Tigers held Wittenberg to 10-of-29 shooting in the first 20 minutes.

The Tiger shot 53.8 percent from the field in the game and shot 9-of-11 at the free throw stripe for 81.8 percent.

The Tigers are shooting 51.1 percent from the field so far in the 2006-07 campaign and are holding their opponents to a mere 41.4 percent.

DePauw has been equally accurate from behind the arc, connecting on 46.8 percent of its three-point attempts.

DPU's opponent for Wednesday, the Gorlocks of Webster, has not been as fortunate as the Tigers so far this season.

As a team, Webster averages just 50.5 points per game and gives up 78.3 to its opponents for an average margin of loss of 27.8 and have been outscored by their opponents 208-151 in the first half this season.

DePauw and the Gorlocks will hook up Wednesday at Webster beginning at 6 p.m.
