A pair of former Putnam County high school athletes have been making waves in NCAA pools this season.

Greencastle graduate Andrew Bretscher has posted two of the Auburn Tigers' top times this season.

Bretscher has the fifth-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 21.22 seconds, recorded at the U.S. Open at Purdue on Nov. 30.

The Auburn freshman also has the fifth-best time in the 100-yard backstroke at 51.86 seconds, recorded on the second day of the Open, Dec. 1.

North Putnam graduate Zach Whitaker has been active for the Ball State Cardinals this season.

The BSU freshman diver most recently competed in a meet at Michigan State on Dec. 9.

Whitaker finished fourth overall in the three-meter dive with a score of 260.40.

Both area graduates will be out of action until the new year.

The next scheduled meet for the Auburn men's swimming team is Jan. 11 at home against Texas beginning at 3 p.m. while the Cardinals will be back in the pool Jan. 13 at home against Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m.
