First baby of 2007 arrives

Wednesday, January 3, 2007

Putnam County's first baby of the new year arrived Tuesday morning with a full head of light brown fluffy hair.

Abigail Suzanne Felix weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long when she was delivered at 8:10 a.m. by Dr. C.Y. Ho at Putnam County Hospital.

The daughter of Cassandra Felix and Brian Ervin, the newborn is the first for the couple.

Cassandra, who works full-time for both Operation Life as a paramedic and for the hospital as a licensed practical nurse, said she has been present for deliveries before, but her own experience was quite different.

"I'm not used to being on this side of it, getting the pain, getting the IV," she said while holding her hours-old baby Tuesday afternoon.

Brian works for the Floyd Township Fire Dept.

Little Abigail was due to arrive sometime this week. Her mom described the pregnancy as "pretty uneventful," and said she is looking forward to taking some time off to be with her daughter.

Cassandra has been at PCH for seven years, and said she normally works everywhere but in the obstetrics department. She prefers the fast pace of the emergency room. She also plans to continue her schooling to become a registered nurse.

When it came to naming the baby, dad Brian said Abigail is a name he has always liked. The infant's middle name Suzanne is the middle name of Cassandra's stepmother.

Abigail was welcomed at the hospital by maternal grandparents Roger and Pat Felix, Reelsville.

Paternal grandparents are Clyde and Brenda Ervin II, Danville, and Lisa and Mark Faust, Avon.
