Wayne E. Snyder, 72, Cataract, died Tuesday at his residence.

Born in Carp, he was the son of Aurel Eugene and Beulah Beatrice (Winkle-pleck) Snyder.

He was the owner and operator of the Cataract General Store and had owned and operated the Millgrove General Store. He was a member of Cataract Missionary Baptist Church, Cloverdale Masonic Lodge, past master of Quincy Lodge 655, Terre Haute Valley of Scottish Rite, and was first chief of the Cataract Volunteer Fire Dept.

He married Beverly Jean Wood on May 24, 1954. She died Dec. 27, 1996. He later married Karen L. Wilson. She survives.

Also surviving are his father, Speedway; daughters, Patricia Lynn Adams and husband James, Plainfield, Billie "B.J." Vargas and husband Andrew, Cloverdale, and Mary Oak and husband Trevor, McCordsville; three sons, Rev. Larry Eugene Snyder and wife Jeanette, West Terre Haute, James Edward Snyder and wife Janie, Indianapolis, and Brian Jolliff and wife Amber, Cloverdale; sisters Helen Meek and husband Wayne L., Spencer, and Joan Weeks and husband Dale, Stilesville; brothers Robert Snyder and wife Loretta, Spencer, and Donald Snyder and wife Jane, Bloomington; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, first wife and son Daniel Wayne Snyder.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. Bill Beckleheimer, Rev. Larry Snyder and Rev. Jerry Huber officiating. Burial will be in Cataract Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
