P.C. Playhouse kicks off fundraising effort Feb. 10

Monday, January 22, 2007

The public is invited to help the 47-year-old Putnam County Playhouse and have a great evening out at the same time.

To kick off the fundraising efforts for its 2007 building fund, PCPH will host a dinner-entertainment event at Dixie Chopper Business Center on Saturday, Feb. 10. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. A musical revue entitled "Love Is " will follow.

Tickets for the event are $45 per person, and reservations can be made by calling Hammer and Co. at 653-6941. Invitations have gone out in the mail, but you may also make reservations by telephone.

The dinner and dessert will be catered by Gail Smith of Almost Home and Final Approach Bistro.

This will be the third in a series of bi-annual fund raising events that PCPH has presented. Its purpose is to begin raising funds for the first large building project planned by the group in over a decade. The 2003 and 2005 events were sellouts.

PCPH president Michael McClaine revealed plans for a 4,000-square-foot, two-story multi-purpose building to be constructed just south of the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. McClaine said the structure would include an indoor rehearsal area, costume and prop storage, and dressing rooms for cast members.

McClaine added, "Since 1983, directors have had to contend with bad weather when rehearsing outside. The dressing rooms are in the small barn right now, and cast members are sometimes faced with a long walk in rain and mud to get to the stage. This new construction, which has been planned for quite some time, will solve those many problems, and make our shows better for our very supportive audiences."

Fund raising chairperson Christopher Wurster said that the project will be financed by a combination of available capital fund reserves, donations and a loan.

Individuals and organizations that would like to contribute to the project on a greater level can visit the website at www.putnamcountyplayhouse.com and find out details in the news section. Those contributing from $1,000 to $5,000 will receive special considerations including a table at the fund raiser, recognition on show night, and season tickets for the 2007 slate of shows.

Vice president Larry Sutton said, "Putnam County Playhouse is an all-volunteer organization. Every tax-deductible dollar that is donated to us is used to further our mission: to provide the people of the county and the surrounding area the opportunity to participate in and enjoy live theatre."

The 2007 season opening in June will include Rodgers and Hammer-stein's "Cinderella," William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Fan-tasticks," and Neil Simon's "The Sunshine Boys."
