Maurice "Sparky" F. Sims, 79, Brazil, died Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Putnam County, he was the son of George and Inez Reed Sims. He married Patricia A. Williams on July 15, 1955, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served as an electrician's mate. He worked as a truck driver for Omar Bakery and Hunter Oil Company. He retired from H&R Block as a tax accountant and later started his own company, retiring in 2000. He also worked for Clay Community Schools as a bus driver for almost 20 years.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 47, having earned his 50-year pin.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Pam Evens, Bainbridge, Patty Clampitt and husband Joey, Roachdale, and Cindy Lou Robinson and husband Paul, Terre Haute; a son, Randy Sims and wife Gayle, Brazil; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, three step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandson; a brother, Floyd Sims and wife Lorrene; and four sisters, Betty Fox and husband Merle "Peanut," Norma Alvin, Geneva Dimitroff, and Freida Finney and husband Jay.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul, Frank and Marvin Sims.

Graveside services, with military services, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clearview Cemetery with Pastor Gary Scroggins officiating.
