Heading into weekend, DPU tied for SCAC lead

The DePauw University men's basketball team is in a comfortable position heading into this weekend.

The Tigers are 19-4 overall and 10-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, tied for first with Centre. Millsaps is one-half game out at 10-3.

Oglethorpe and Trinity are both 7-5 while Hendrix and Sewanee are both 5-7. Southwestern is 4-8 while Rhodes is 3-10 and Austin is 0-12.

The Tigers play host to Sewanee on Friday and Oglethorpe on Sunday.

Sewanee is 6-16 overall this year while Oglethorpe is 14-9.

As a team, Sewanee is averaging 70 points per contest while giving up only 75.7. However, in SCAC games, Sewanee is averaging 71.8 points per game while giving up 74.2.

Joey Garcia is the team's leading scorer at 16.4 points per game while Spencer Rowland is averaging 16.2.

However, both players kicked it up a notch this year against SCAC opponents with Rowland averaging 17 points per contest and Garcia totalling 16.9.

Ben Pursell also contributes nine points per game while Chris Eddy is scoring 8.8 per game, but is averaging 10.3 in conference outings.

Sewanee is 1-8 on the road this year, including 1-4 in SCAC games.

Oglethorpe has fared much better this season and could give the Tigers fits Sunday.

Oglethorpe is averaging 83.3 points per game overall and 80.5 in conference action. In SCAC games only, Oglethorpe is averaging 80.5 while allowing 76.3.

Offensively, Oglethorpe is paced by Andrew Tulowitsky's 17.5 points per game. In addition, Ahmad Kareem Shahee averages 16 points while Erick Dickinson is scoring 15.3. Arthur Pilkevich is also contributing 12.5 points per contest.

In league play, Tulowitsky is averaging 15.4 while Shahee is tallying 15.3. Dickinson is averaging 13 points while Pilkevich is scoring 13.1.

This season, Oglethorpe is 5-4 in road games, including 3-2 in SCAC road contests.

The Tigers are undefeated at home this season at 10-0, including 5-0 in conference action.

Excluding a loss to Centre on Feb. 3, the Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 games.

Offensively, DPU is averaging 73.4 points per game, but only 68.7 in SCAC games. In contrast, the Tigers are giving up only 67.2 and 64.2 against SCAC opponents.

Austin Brown paces the Tiger offense, averaging 14.5 points overall and 13.5 in conference action.

Stephen Schott also is providing 11.9 points per game and 10.8 in conference action while Mike Moore is scoring 10.8 overall and 9.7 in SCAC games. In addition, Reid Sakel is getting 10.4 points per game overall and 10.3 in SCAC games.

The Tigers are shooting 47 percent overall this season and 44 percent against SCAC opponents. Defensively, the Tigers allow opponents to shoot only 44 percent and SCAC foes shoot only 43 percent.
