Tigers set for big weekend

Heading into Friday's game with Sewanee, the DePauw University women's basketball team has big things on its mind.

The Tigers are 20-3 overall this season, but a loss to Austin College on Sunday dropped DPU to 10-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The conference standings are up for grabs this weekend.

DPU is tied for first in the SCAC with Oglethorpe. DePauw hosts Oglethorpe on Sunday.

Hendrix is third in the league with a 9-3 record while Trinity is fourth at 8-4. Austin is fifth at 7-5 while Rhodes is sixth at 6-7. Southwestern is seventh at 5-7 while Sewanee is eighth at 3-9. Centre is ninth at 2-10 and Millsaps is 10th at 1-12.

Sewanee is 9-13 overall this season. Prior to Sunday's victory over Millsaps, Sewanee had dropped five consecutive games.

Offensively, Sewane is averaging 64.2 points per game and 63.2 in SCAC action. It is allowing opponents to score 66.8 points per game and 69.4 in league play.

Steffi Renninger leads the team in scoring at 14.8 points per contest but only 14.1 in the SCAC.

In addition, Sewanee gets 13.3 points from Dani Pettay and 8.2 from Anne Wills. Wills, however, has increased her scoring output in SCAC games to 9.2.

As a team, Sewanee is 2-9 on the road this season, including 0-5 against SCAC foes.

The conference could be decided at DePauw on Sunday when Oglethorpe pays a visit.

Oglethorpe is 18-5 overall this season, including 6-4 in road games (3-2 against SCAC foes). It has won four straight games since falling to Trinity on Jan. 27.

The squad is averaging 78.7 points per game and 77.3 points per game in SCAC action. It is giving up 67.5 points per game and 65.4 points to SCAC rivals.

Offensively, Oglethorpe is paced by Katie Kulavic's 14.6 points per contest. Anna Findley also scores 14.4 while Biz Richmann contributes 12.1.

However, all three players increased their offensive output in SCAC play, with Kulavic averaging 16, Findley averaging 16.7 and Richmann averaging 13.4.

Erin Flynn also scores 13 points per game against SCAC opponents and 10.1 points per game overall in only nine games this season.

The Tigers average 79.1 points per game overall and 77.6 points per game in conference action. In contrast, DPU is allowing opponents to score only 54.9 points per game and only 53.8 against league opponents.

Offensively, Liz Bondi paces the Tigers at 16 points per game and 17.5 points per game against league opponents.

Cassie Pruzin ranks second on the team offensively with an average of 8.8 points per game.

Caitlin McGonigal is also contributing eight points per game while Bridget Bailey is averaging 7.3.

The Tigers have not lost a game at home this season, going 8-0 overall and 5-0 against conference opponents. Prior to the loss at Austin, DePauw had won eight straight, but lost to Oglethorpe, 63-61, on Jan. 7.
